The Teller

Keywords: Your story is about...

The Story-Teller is an old woman, very lined and thin, with dark brown skin and long silver hair. She shows immense age and experience in her face, yet there is also humor and vitality. She seems to lean forward out of the image, and beckons to us with her left hand saying, 'Come and listen to this!' When we are drawn to her, she closes her hand over our hearts. She is dressed in brown and dark red earth colours, and her skin is tanned as if she is constantly out doors in all weather. We see behind her a pool or wild pond, with white water lilies in bloom.

The Teller draws us in to a story or life pattern. This drawing in works in a multifold way, for the Teller has a resonance within ourselves at the deepest level where we choose our own lives before physical birth. In most life situations, however, it seems that we are attracted to a situation, or that it comes upon us 'from outside'. The less contact we have with The Teller resonance within, the more it seems that patterns are externalized or imposed. While the external Teller is shown in the Dreampower deck as an aged wise woman, our internal resonance is the Child or Listener...who asks for the story. Often the Child demands the same story over and over until he or she grows out of it. The Child or Listener is shown as the sleeping infant in the Trump of the Choir, but is also ourselves participating in each Trump, rather like The Fool in tarot who becomes each Trump in turn.

The Teller is an aged brown-skinned woman; she knows the full story of all worlds from ending to beginning. All her tales begin with endings. At death she draws us in to the beginning of our story, which is the journey through the true world of which our outer consensual world is a mirror-image. At birth she opens her hand and lets us out into the mirror-world to take part in its reflection of the true inner story. As children we literally imagine ourselves into our own story.

In visionary work you can ask The Teller to reveal stories to you, though she may accept or refuse your requests and is not obliged to reveal anything. She may also whisper in your ear, and when you hear her, she stands just out of sight behind your shoulder. She also communicates ancestral memories to you; these may include recovery of part lives, your own or those of others.

In some card readings The Teller may also represent the mother, grandmother or maternal influence of the subject's life and, depending upon the depth of the reading, resonances from past lives.
