The Court of Spirits:
Element of Fire

The Element of Fire is incandescent, illuminating, burning, transformative, harmonizing, purifying and healing.

The Court of Spirits encompasses many orders of spiritual beings, including Archangels, planetary and regional spirits, faery beings of the most powerful orders and ex-humans or transhuman spirits who have transformed beyond humanity into something with deeper levels of awareness and power. While stereotypes associated with this Court seem to imply the spirits of light that are 'distant' in the upper world and heavenly Realms, the Underworld spirits of light are embodiments of star power within the body of the planet. This includes the ancient Orphic or Platonic teaching that each man and woman is the spirit of a star, though we are asleep to this truth during outer or surface consciousness. In all members of this Court the Element of Fire and Light is prevalent or strongest.

The King of Spirits

Fire and Fire

This being is often difficult to see face to face. In the card we find an image of a mature male figure blazing with light, with red hair and beard, seeming almost to be of flames. He is naked and holds in each hand a long staff which rests upon the ground. The staff in his right hand is of golden metal and sprouts vigorous green shoots, while the one in his left hand is of living wood with bark and has a rough crystalline cluster upon its tip. His skin is copper and golden, and he has green eyes. What we can see of his face is smiling and kindly but strong and firm rather than seeking friendship; the brightness of his power seems to outshine his full features, as if they emerge from the flame-like hair and beard or as if the light is too bright to look upon.

Beings embodied by this image are powerful, strong willed, fiery, mature and experienced over long time-scales, with inexhaustible energy. They can be creative or destructive, but tend towards balance and harmony, destroying only to purify and regenerate. If this is a human being, the outer form often belies the inner power, and therefore such people may not appear as charismatic or stereotyped spiritual leaders. Many false teachers and would-be masters or messiahs try to assume this power or to present an image of it to others. The true human King of Fire has no need for such shows. Human males of this type have conscious control of the Inner Fire or life energy. In some instances the king as a human is masked by a filtering persona, which he may choose to release if he becomes aware of his deeper identity.

Other beings that may appear as the King of Spirits are Archangels, though these resonate through each of the Four Elements. There are powerful Underworld connections between this embodiment and the faery kings and other beings radiating the planetary power of Earth Light. Fire guardians and awakened sleepers at sacred power sites are often found in this form. Many of the old gods of light and fire are contacted through this image, and will also shine through a human King of Fire at certain key times of meditation and empowerment.
