The Court of Ancestors:
Element of Earth

The Element of Earth is solid, reflective, sustaining, form-giving and form-taking. In human terms it resonates with the physical body, the land, the planet. It also resonates with the times of night and winter, and the universal powers of Law and Liberty.

He is short, has dark swarthy skin with spiraling blue tattoos, and his features are slightly aboriginal. His deep black eyes convey profound intelligence, wisdom and experience. He is old, yet full of vibrant power. His legs and arms are sinewy and bare, and are tattooed right down to his fingers and toes; on his face, on either cheek and on his forehead, is a triple dot pattern, and there are other single and double dots on his arms and legs, with the spirals opening out to flow along the arms and thighs like snakes.

The king wears a stained brown soft leather jerkin with leather shorts that reach half way down his thighs. Both shorts and jerkin are pinned with several abstractly carved and inscribed white bone fastenings and have wide black sinews sewn along the seams.

The king has a belt woven of coloured strands which may be hair and dyed grasses, for the colours are faded red, green, black and yellow. From this belt hangs a downy, feather-covered bay, a beautiful greenstone axe head, a small white skull with crystal eyes and a bunch of twigs, withered leaves and flight feathers tied together to form a small brush or fan. He faces us, squatting at the entrance to a dolmen. The dolmen fills most of the background, with some clear sky above.

Such beings are often the grandfathers of wisdom, shrewd, experienced and kindly older men. In transhuman terms the King of Ancestors is the wisdom bearer from the living ancestral world. He teaches earth-wisdom and transformative magic, and guards the sacred places of the land, preserving their timeless mysteries and liberating those who seek truth through such mysteries.
