Division
(Emerging)
Keywords:
Union and separation
Division
shows a naked man and woman standing face to face, with clasped hands,
his right to her left raised above head height and his left to her right
lowered to around the genital region. The arms are not straight, but
in a relaxed curve. The couple also touch feet, her left foot over his
right, his left over her right, though we may not be able to see this
fully. They have eyes closed and seem in a deep sleep, smiling peacefully.
They
are within growing plants: he has a cultivated, old variety red rose
bush around him, whiles she has a white wild briar. The plants ramble
over their shoulders and arms with occasional buds and opening (but
not fully opened) flowers, and then coil around a tall menhir immediately
behind them, where they form a vivid crown of open red and white flowers
around the top of the stone, which reaches to the uppermost part of
the image. the background is sky blue and the man and woman stand upon
grass, within some rocks out of which little plants grow.
Upon
the menhir, above them, is a small ancestral carving of a two-headed
rebus figure with outstretched arms in a cross shape. Around the double
head, which we see in profile looking right and left, is carved a semi-circle
of seven dots or stars. Traditionally, these seven stars represent the
group of the Pleiades or Seven Sisters, which is important in esoteric
tradition around the world, with legends and associated rituals reaching
from prehistory of the present day. The foundation of these traditions,
found in both the northern and southern hemispheres is that one branch
or aspect of humanity came from this star group to the planet Earth.
The major pivots or turning points and festivals of the year are marked
by the setting and rising of the Pleiades in May and November (reversed
in the southern hemisphere). Another tradition asserts that the Seven
Sisters are a matrix for the sevenfold energies of the solar system,
and the powers of the seven planets and the Seven Directions which are
mirrored within humanity.
Division
is the partner Trump to Arousal, with both Trumps bridging between the
Stone and Pearl Realms. While Arousal is a power of individual awakening
and finding inner power, Division embodies ideas of union, separation
and multiplication. There is a tendency for Arousal to reach downwards
or deeper within, while Division tends to reach towards the surface
of our consciousness or move outwards and proliferate.
In
a personal reading Division shows sources of separation and union, and
potential reflection, mirroring and multiplication through interaction
with others. In terms of human relationships, it can also show ways
towards retrospective harmony and wisdom - being wise after an event
rather than before it. The male and female figures are asleep in the
inner world, though they may be very active upon the surface. They are
increasingly manifest and separate potentials of male and female within
us that are shown conjoined in the Trump of Conjunction, which is a
deeper harmonic between the Pearl and Whirlpool Realms.
The
menhir is a focus and vehicle for earth-power, a needle between the
land and the sky, reaching from the Underworld towards the stars above.
It is also associated with sexuality, fertility and ancestral magic.
The red and white roses are the entwined powers of male and female within
each of us, with red and white standing for blood and seed. Upon the
tall standing stone is a tiny figure with arms outstretched, crowned
with the seven stars or seven traditional planets. It reminds us of
two deeper Trumps that flow through into Division: The Knower at the
crossroads and Conjunction. Such small figures are the primal or Underworld
sources of the later images of guardian deities at sacred sites and
of the sacrificed and blessing powers that assist humanity.
