Workshop 1: Sunday October 26th, 2003

FROM MEGALITHS TO MYTH AND MAGIC

An exploration of the four main branches of Celtic tradition: Scottish, Irish, Welsh, and Breton, through archaeology myth legend and folkloric magic. What is the underlying unity, and what are the differences? How may we work with these traditions, concepts, and spiritual and magical themes today? From Megaliths to Myth and Magic reveals the progression of Celtic lore from ancestral roots to recorded tradition, and shows the hidden wisdom traditions and magical themes therein.

Workshop 2: Saturday December 6th, 2003

THE SCOTTISH TRADITION: From Albion to Brigadoon.

Scottish tradition came in part from Ireland, part from northern Europe, and, of course, from indigenous Scottish roots and megalithic origins. It is closely related to Irish tradition, but with some significant differences. In this workshop we explore the themes of Giants, Scottish witchcraft, The Fairy Queen, and the storehouse of 19th century Scottish Celtic romanticism, including the mystical poetry of Fiona Macleod.

Workshop 3: Saturday, March 13, 2004

THE IRISH TRADITION: from the Otherworld Invasions to the Celtic Renaissance.

Irish tradition is more indigenous and less influenced by Europe. Like that of Scotland, it draws upon ancient megalithic origins. In this workshop we explore the classic themes of the Book of Invasions, the Tuatha De Danaan, Irish fairy tradition, the relationship between Irish druids and the Celtic Church, and the immense 19th century revival of Celtic themes, including the work of W B Yeats and the fairy poet Ella Young.

Workshop 4: Sunday, March 14, 2004

THE WELSH TRADITION

Welsh tradition shares many themes with Irish and Scottish sources, but is closely aligned to that of Brittany, and the Cult of the Dead. In this workshop we explore Welsh Druidism and bardic poetry, the mythic war between Wales and Ireland (described in the Mabinogion), the Prophecies of Merlin, and the Welsh fairy tradition.

Workshop 5: Sunday February 8th 2004

Breton tradition is regarded as the most primal Celtic tradition of Europe, and has many aspects that are not readily discovered in the British and Irish sources. Most significant is the Cult of the Dead and the Otherworld, which play a major role in Breton tradition and folkloric magic. In this workshop we will explore the unique aspects of Breton tradition, its connections to Welsh legendary tradition, and the role of the UnderWorld and Prophecy in Celtic tradition.
